Laura
Viganó is full professor of banking at the University of Bergamo, Italy (joined the university as assistant professor in 1995, associate professor in 2000, full professor in 2002). Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration since October 1st, 2007. She graduated in Economics and Business Administration in 1987. In 1992, she completed her Ph.D. in Business Economics, Finance and Capital Markets at the University of Bergamo. In 1990, she was a visiting instructor at The Ohio State University (Rural finance group). She is Director of the Master in Microfinance, offered by the University of Bergamo and CIPSI (an Italian NGO’s network) specifically designed for participants from African Countries. Since mid-2007, in charge of the Journal Savings and Development, now issued by the University of Bergamo.
She is a consultant for national and international organisations. From 1995 to 2005 she was permanent consultant and then director of Giordano Dell’Amore Foundation (Finafrica – Milan). She worked in several African countries and in the Middle East doing research and technical assistance for research institutes and international development agencies (see the list of countries below). She has presented papers at international conferences and published books and articles, with special focus on financial markets and intermediaries in developing economies.
